Taking risks, taking that next step is not always as fearful as we make it seem. Lately, I have encountered a lot of life changes and opportunities that have made me take a step back. The overthinking, the thought of not being enough, or even just worrying about how my decisions could effect those around me.
I am learning that sometimes you have to be a little selfish. You have to do things that are going to feed you spiritually first before you can bare fruit with others. You have to put your first foot forward, and stop talking about what you want to do, and do it. Even though you are afraid to.
I'm learning to let go. I'm learning not to overthink things, so much that I end up thinking myself out of doing what I want. A conversation I had with a mentor is one that I often remind myself of. She told me that "people aren't afraid to fail, they're afraid to succeed." That hit hard. She explained that we as people know how it feels to be low. We have been at some of our darkest points in life, and have rose up to defeat those times. But we are afraid of being even better than where we are at this moment in our lives. Afraid of the impact of executing dreams that you've been holding onto, could actually have.
We can't be scared forever. I know a lot of people who are sitting on talents just because they are fearful of trying. Scared that shit might actually work for once. WHY be afraid of greatness? WHY be afraid to try new things, and actually be good at it. I even have to practice this myself. I already know that I can pick myself up again if things don't work out, but I don't know how it feels to reach those high pinnacles, and keep pushing for more success. I'm working on it slowly. I plan to work on that this year, and every year forward.
So with that being said, this year don't be scared. Don't sleep on yourself, don't sleep on your talents. Don't sleep on your ability to push further, and harder. Don't settle. Let go, breathe. Do what you have always been dreaming. Do the things you always say you're going to do. What harm could it have?
With love and well wishes,
Self care. Self care. Self care. You may have been hearing this phrase often, but tell me, have you actually practiced this? After a long week of work, school, and trying to be human by socializing, it is often hard to set aside that time to actually give yourself a little extra love.
In today’s society we beat ourselves up if we aren’t busy. We have trained each other to believe that if we aren’t at work, we should be at school. If we aren’t at school, or work, you should be doing something else productive. I even find myself at times feeling terrible if I even get an ounce of rest when I know there’s other things that I could be doing.
Taking time to take care of you is VERY IMPORTANT. Just in case you didn’t really register that sentence I’m going to type it again. Taking time to take care of you is VERY IMPORTANT. A wise woman told me that self care resembles the emergency instructions flight attendants give you on a plane. You have to put your oxygen mask on first, then help those around you. I have been on many flights, but that statement never really registered with me. It very much so correlated with self care. You have to make sure your mind, body, emotions, and soul are in good condition to be able to give to others. You keep breaking your one slice of bread to feed everyone, to only leave yourself with crumbs.
You may think that you are actually doing yourself a favor by pulling those all nighters, but in the long run you aren’t. That sleep you missed out on, is now lost.
I promise you my love, you ARE doing enough. Take a step back and breathe. Take this Sunday night to rest and ease your mind. This may sound shocking but you can close your textbook, your laptop, and sleep. You don’t have to bring work problems with you inside your place of peace. When you step into your home leave those outside problems, outside.
The things I like to do when I feel like I need some more loving are listed below. I know everyone is different. Everyone’s moving and getting prepared for the week ahead, but I challenge you to do one of these things this week. I promise you’ll see a difference.
you may be thinking that you already bathe daily, but let me explain. this isn’t just any ole’ bath. It’s a bath where you soak and wash off all of your worries from last week. Recenter yourself and get a break from all the stress. p.s
play some of your favorite songs, and add candles when youre really feeling a little spicy
you owe this time to yourself
