Take a seat..
The Premiere of “Wavey Weekends”
“Wavey Weekends”, hosted with a friend of mine, Nunu (owner of brokebaby clothing, go cop that) made its premiere on Saturday, November 3, 2018.. It honestly still feels so, unrealistic, like this moment doesn’t exist. Or like I’m living in some fantasy world.. Wavey Weekends was an idea that I came up with in one night. I really thought of it, and just ran with it. Just a crazy idea from a Houston kid with big dreams. I got to share this moment with so many amazing people, and I couldn’t have asked for a better night.
the idea was for it to be a place where people can speak their truth. Where artists and business owners of all kind can come and connect, with each other. So much young talent running around, and these days it’s hard to build genuine connections. I wanted those connections to be built here. When the vibe is real you’ll know. I have been in some places where I feel like a shift of energy was needed when it came to the art scene. Like there needs to be representation for everyone. I’m surrounded by so many people, family, and friends, who endulge in the art world. So I wanted them to be a part of this movement. Then came about Wavey Weekends. There were vendors who sold clothing, handmade wallets, artists displaying art, a photographer displaying images that related to the “love and lust”, as well as artists of all kind coming to the stage during the open mic.
To be honest I did not expect this turn out. I was actually slightly nervous because I am not deep in the art scene within the Bay Area where I reside, but man God held me this night. I want to give a thank you to Nunu, Carlos, Ne’Shae, Robb and my mother. Arlene. Thank you mom for being my biggest fan. Thank you for pushing me to try new things and staying on my head. Also I want to give a special thanks to my dad, Jeremi. For driving over and hour plus to come and hear me speak. I couldn’t have asked for a better night. I love you pops. You’re really all I could ask for in a father figure.
To tell you the truth, I was so caught in the moment that I didn’t even capture that many pictures, or videos. I was shocked, and proud. I felt warm knowing that these beautiful humans wanted to come and share their voices, and their time with me. It was such a ethereal experience. If you missed it, you’ll just have to slide through to the next one won’t you?
Enjoy these images and videos and bask in it with me as I look back on this night.
To everyone who performed, you are appreciated a thousand times over.
To all of the vendors, I hope you return and keep journeying with me. Thank you for spending your Saturday with me. Thank you for being you.
To Nunu, it’s only up from here. Keep doing what you’re doing bro. We gonna make something of ourselves. Like we said to each other multiple times over. ONLY WAY we can fail is if we don’t put in work. Much love.
To Ne’Shae, I’m so proud of you. I pushed you out of your comfort zone, and you
stepped up to the plate in every sense of the phrase. From money spent. To hours and hours on painting. To multiple Walmart runs, running out of paint, hand cramps, and loss of sleep. To taking off time from work. To stressing. To adjusting and loving your painting as time went on. I thank you, and I am so proud of you. Thank you for helping me recenter myself when I’m tripping and being impatient. I love you pico.
I love you man. I appreciate you being here on this night I appreciate you sharing your art with me. I enjoy your existence in my life. We will talk soon.
Thank you for messing with the vision. Thank you for clearing your schedule for me. Thank you for understanding where I want to be artistically and helping me create this. I’m ready for what’s next, I’m ready to share what we’ve been working on, but I don’t think they’re ready just yet.
Thank you for flying across the country to be here with me. Thank you for listening to my shenanigans. Thank you for making me laugh all the time, and being on go with all the crazy plans I have. Thank you, I love you bro.
youve seen me. You have always seen me even when you didn’t want to admit it. Even when you let your pride get into the way. Even when you say you don’t want my “head to get big”. You have seen me since I was blasting partynextdoor across our high school campus. You have read countless poems addressed to you, and some not. You always tune in to listen when I speak.
You deserve the world.
Thank you for being here for me on this important night. I needed you there. Even if you don’t believe it. I couldn’t have asked for more thank you for being present.
i know this night wasn’t the most comfortable for you. I know it didn’t end that well,
but since I have your attention I want you to know:
I make a lot of mistakes, I know. I have no excuses for that, and I won’t continuously try and justify them. Just know I have loved you genuinely since the day that I took your crutch. I have loved you, from miles away. I have loved you through seasons. I have loved you from day to day, week to week. And ima scream it to the world until you believe it. Last night I grew to love you more. I want you to know that you don’t have to keep searching. I’m ready when you are.
if you have any pictures or videos from this night, feel free to DM or email. Also it would be dope if you subscribed to my newsletter to stay updated on what’s next. We will be back and even better. See y’all in January.
